Establishment of an Old People’s Home for Buddhist Monks and Devotees

Using direct research by Monk (Aani) Bhim Suwa Gurung and empirical studies, it has been found that Buddhist Monks and devotees wish to spend time in Nepal. However, elderly citizens, senior Buddhist Monks and devotees could not achieve their needs of adequate medical care and a peaceful environment everywhere.
An old people’s home has therefore been planned. Seniors will be able to be cared for, given healthy food and a place to live with inner peace. Seniors who are alone or don’t have someone to take care of them will also be adopted under the programme. Buddhist Monks and devotees of above 60 years will be welcomed to the proposed Old People’s Home. All basic amenities such as accommodation, food, clothing, medicine and other such facilities shall be provided. Necessary medical facilities are also to be provided.

Residents in the Old People’s Home will gain the following benefits:

  • Senior citizens who don’t have a family to support them in their old age will have a peaceful life.
  • They neither have to work nor perform any duties; they can lead a comfortable life independently.
  • They can live the rest of their life free from worries about security.
  • They can enjoy the company of like-minded people.
  • The ideas and skills of the senior citizens will be shared with young people in the community.

The WBRA has been seeking support for this project. In this regard, the Chairperson has visited Thailand and met Gurus in Dhammakaya Temple, who has committed support for making this project come true.
